Her siblings are her elder sister Bidisha, and younger sister Bijoyeta . She was born in New Delhi, but her family later moved to Kolkata, where she won a regional beauty contest at a very young age. She has said that she had come into modelling and acting "quite by accident," because initially Bipasha had planned to either study chartered accountancy or medicine. However, she said that she dropped the idea of doing medical studies because she fainted when attempting to dissect rats.
